The picture on the left is my foot in the air & the picture on the right is my foot on the floor. I wanted to show the true placement of my toes. I'm so happy my doctor was right & they have relaxed! This is only 1.5 months after surgery, so my scars are very noticable. I keep putting cocoa butter (vitamin E) on them twice a day, & the scars have and will continue to fade.
Thank you so much for this blog! I am getting my toe shortening/ bunion surgery next week and this has calmed my nerves a great deal! I cant believe how nice your feet are looking only after 1.5 months! Im so sad that I waited until now because summer is here! its so beautiful out and I have to keep my feet covered until at least july? I guess I wont get to experience wearing sandals for the first time until next summer? :(any advice for me you would like to share? Im getting both feet done but 2 weeks apart, I see you waited a year to do the other foot. Do you wish you did it sooner or glad that you waited? I have the entire summer off so should I do them a week apart?
ReplyDeleteI waited so long because my doctor suggested that my first foot should heal enitrely (9 months) before I get the second done. At first, I wanted to get the next one done right away, but I couldn't stand being confined to my couch & being so dependent, so couldn't imagine going through that again so soon! Also, I couldn't get my foot wet for quite some time (definitely longer than 2 weeks), so I'm not sure how you are going to shower with both feet wrapped up. I also wanted to get it done during the winter, because I stay in the house a lot during that season, and wanted to be "flip fop ready" for Spring.
ReplyDeleteMy healing process wasn't very painful on my first foot, but it was on my second because my doctor did things a little differently. Once you are in your recovery period, that's when you will decide when you want to get your next foot done! TRUST ME!
I'm happy my blog helped! When I was doing research, I couldn't find anyone who did exactly what I was going to, so that inspired me to help the next person. Keep me posted on your surgery/recovery.. and GOOD LUCK!!!
Wow really? I am scheduled for my next surgery in 2 more weeks. Its very odd but everyone's procedures although the same have all been performed differently and have different healing times. I'm only on week two and I am having my pins removed on monday but I'm already walking without any pain and the swelling subsided after the first week. I can even walk comfortably on my heals when barefoot. Based on my experience, the first week is hell! and it leaves no HOPE for ever walking again ha ha ha but after the 2nd week I can definitely picture those flip flops :) I noticed a lot of docs cut the toe across the middle like yours did but if you look at my pics you will notice that my doc cut along the side of the toes to avoid leaving visible scars. I wonder if that is the primary reason why our healing times varied so much. My doc told me 6 months would be the maximum time that I should have swelling or discomfort but as I said before I have no swelling at all at the present time. Well either way it looks great so congrats to aquiring beautiful feet! I bet it was worth all of the suffering because looking at my cut up toes and pins, I still see the beauty post op :) Thank you for writing back! I really appreciate your feedback!
ReplyDeleteOh one more question, are you out of the surgical shoe? if so when were you able to get back into a sneaker? if not, when will you be out of the shoe? can you walk barefoot yet?
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say think you for sharing this blog. I had hammertoe/toe shortening surgery 3 weeks ago, and I guess I needed to see an African American foot. Every foot that I’ve seen so far (including yours) looks so much better than mine. I had my pins and stitches removed this week and I'm at that stage where my foot scabs and the skin peels. Everyone’s stitches looked so much neater than mine. I'm trying to stay positive. Keep us posted on your improvements. Seeing your progress makes me feel much calmer.
ReplyDelete@UFanonymous- When I wrote you my last message, I was already wearing a sneaker. My doc let me wear sneakers a week or two after the pins were out.
ReplyDelete@SoSadistic- Don't worry about it! Everyone thinks their foot looks much worse than what it does! My left foot had HUGE scabs.. so just like you, I was extremely nervous.. but it all cleared up! *Stay Positive!*
--You guys are more than welcome for my blog! This is the reason I created it!--
